wet basement wall- solving the problem of where is it coming from?
September 7, 2010, 7:53 pmI live in NJ & the corner of my basement (directly below my front step/walkway area) is wet we just had a week of rain-I noticed it was one wet cinder block. It stopped raining about 2 days ago but it is now 6 cinder blocks wet, even though it is no longer raining. Is there a huge amount of water sitting below there somewhere? About 2 months ago i had a faulty gutter that caused the corner of the driveway to sink a foot deep(same area as mentioned above) . I fixed the gutter and had the driveway repaired(they filled it - i think with gravel but not cement). i am thinking that the water is coming from a thin gap between the bottom of the front stairs where it meets the concrete walkway. the walkway has a small crack in it about a foot away from the gap between the front stairs and walkway I described above. i would like to know if both or one of these may be the source of the leak and how to fix it. once this problem is solved i plan on waterproofing the wall in the basement. -
